Yesterday, I posted a diary about a stray, 2-year-old “Flora” (her newly given name), who has a badly broken leg from being hit by a car two weeks ago, and how her time was up at a kill shelter that wouldn’t release her unless a nonprofit rescue could prove they could take care of her medical needs (and provide a foster home).
After 19 previous rescue groups said “we’re so sorry but we don’t have the funds,” Pittie In Pink said they’d gladly rescue her but they also didn’t have the funds to pay for her medical needs at this time, as most rescues go about their tireless efforts on shoestring budgets.
My wife promised the director, Laura, we’d try to raise as much money as we could to treat Flora’s badly broken leg so they could pull her from the shelter instead of her meeting an early end yesterday.
Which Pittie In Pink did … purely on faith.
And ….
In less than 24 hours the (updated) GoFundMe goal has been met, thanks to you!
All of you had Flora’s back, literally saving her life and assuring her a future free of pain and full of love.
It’s still unknown how many thousands her surgery, follow ups, and rehab will cost (a note from the shelter said the muscles in her broken leg atrophied during the two weeks she’s been there), but this $4000 will go a long way towards helping Pittie In Pink meet Flora’s medical expenses.
Your kindness, empathy, compassion, and generosity are awe inspiring. The same goodness evidenced time and time again to so many on DKos when this village comes together to lift others up when someone, even a helpless little girl dog, needs us.
When I called the director of the rescue last night to tell her how incredibly you all were joining together to help Flora, she spontaneously burst into tears. They were tears of joy.
Thank you for proving, as you so often do here, how much goodness there is in this world.
I’ll post updates about “Flora” and her progress in the coming days.
Thank you again. Bless you all.

A little bit about the rescue who stepped up to save her … based purely on faith:
OUR MISSION
Here at Pittie in Pink, our mission is to help those who would otherwise be discarded….due simply to their breed, or due to health or behavioral challenges. We liberate dogs from abusive environments, we gather up those who have been abandoned on the streets, and we partner with local animal control facilities to give little souls who have been placed on euthanasia lists a chance to live.
Because we strongly believe that no animal should lose a loving home due to temporary hardships faced by their families, we strive to be a resource for our community. We maintain a small food bank so we can help to feed and provide supplies for the animal companions of our neighbors who find themselves navigating through difficult times. As resources allow, we also assist with veterinary care and spay/neuter procedures for those who may be struggling.
